Web Design – Frequently Asked Questions

FAQs

Web Design – Frequently Asked Questions

Below you will find a list of frequently asked questions for our Web Design services. If you have any questions that are not answered or want more details, please contact us.

Will my website work on my phone?

Yes, all our websites are ‘responsive’. This means that the layout of the webpage alters itself to better fit the device it is viewed on. Meaning your website will work across computers, laptops, tablets, phones, TVs and anywhere else with a web browser. For example, some fridges have internet access now!

Can I sell things through my website?

Yes, we have e-Commerce solutions available. They use WordPress and WooCommerce. We can also help you set-up payment processing and advise you on security.

Can I have a blog?

Yes, in fact, WordPress, our content management system (CMS) was originally designed as just a blog. It has grown though and is now the worlds most popular CMS.

Can I share photos on my website?

Yes, we can install image galleries and slideshows if you require them.

Can I have Facebook buttons on my website?

Yes, we have a lot of experience working with Facebook, Twitter and other social media integrating their APIs into our client’s websites and enabling the interactions you are looking for.

How quickly will my website load?

This depends on what your site does and where it is hosted. If you choose to host with us though your website will load quickly and efficiently.

How much does web design cost?

The cost of web design varies with your needs. As a rough guide though our WordPress sites start at £149. The average client spends around £250 on the website during development. We will quote the final price before we begin and agree on exactly what is and isn’t going to be provided.

Are there any hidden costs?

Hidden? No. There are additional costs associated with a new web site though. We will discuss all of them, and any associated costs, before commencing with your project. These might include a domain name (free for the first year), web hosting (from £14.99 a month through us, or use another company), SSL (from free) and SEO (optional, from £99 a month).

What is the cost of changes/updates?

Once the website is complete and open for business we charge £25 per hour (or part of) for additional work. If you believe there will be regular changes it is strongly advisable you consider a monthly maintenance plan instead. For just £49.99 a month this covers the initial development, hosting (worth £14.99 a month), the domain (worth £12.99 a year) and 3 hours work a month on updates, marketing or SEO.

When is the payment due? Can I pay monthly?

Some services such as Web Hosting, SSL, SEO etc. are monthly and are paid as such. Domain names are annually renewed (or renewed for multiple years at once).

For websites we require a deposit of 50% and the final 50% paid on completion.

Alternatively, we offer a website management plan, it costs £49.99 a month and includes the web design, updates, the domain, cloud hosting, SSL and basic SEO all under the one plan. Some restrictions apply but for many clients, it’s the most cost-effective solution. There is also a minimum term of 12 months, understandably this is to cover the development costs of the website.

What payment methods do you accept?

Our billing system is through Stripe. You can pay invoices by credit or debit card with them. Alternatively, we accept payment through PayPal and BACs (bank transfer). If you would like to set-up a direct debit for monthly payments we can do that for you through GoCardless. Finally, in person, we can take credit or debit cards as well as cash.

How long will it take?

This depends on the complexity of the website. We would expect, however, to have a basic demo ready for you within 14 days. Beyond that, it varies, but most projects are completed within six weeks of the initial contact.

Are all your clients in Dorset?

We are based in Christchurch, near Bournemouth and Poole, in Dorset. However, we have clients across the UK and elsewhere.

Current clients are roughly 20% in Dorset, 70% across the rest of the UK. Then almost 10% in the EU and one client in the Middle East.
We have also worked with a client in South Africa and one in Canada.

There is no geographical restriction on who we work with. The only difference in service is that we can offer a face to face meeting to local clients. Though, if you are based on a tropical island and want to fly us out for a 2-week, all expenses paid, meeting, we’d make the time.

What makes you different from my son/niece/neighbour, who can build websites?

Knowing how to install WordPress and add a theme is not a skill. Knowing how to actually hand-code a website is impressive. But what you need is someone who can do all that but also has an understanding of how business works, how customers think and two decades of experience in web design, development and marketing ready to be shared with your business.

Who owns the website?

The content on the site is yours no matter if you wrote it or we did. The domain is registered in your name. You have full ownership of the site and the domain and are legally responsible for them. Once the site is paid for you also own the code to the site. If media on the site was provided by you then you know it’s ownership status, we will have also confirmed this. If we used stock images then it will depend on their license, this will be discussed with you during development.

Can you write my content/blog?

Yes, we have a content creation service, both one-off and subscription-based. Please contact us for details.
